Nerd in the City

What is it about pirates that is so romantic? Because the reality is that they were dirty, villainous, rowdy bad guys. With rotten teeth and the occasional outbreak of scurvy. Who pillaged, plundered, raped and murdered their way through port after port. Not exactly the ideal career path.

But I’m first to admit that I love me some pirates. Thanks in part to Johnny Depp‘s embodiment of Capt’n Jack Sparrow and the whole Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, pirating became sexy and romantic all over again. Though strangely enough, pirates have always had an air of romance and adventure about them. From Long John Silver to Blackbeard to Calico Jack. All plundering aside.
