Dear Carrie Fisher,

I’m sorry that we live in the kind of world where appearance is what we are judged on above all other merit. To some degree everyone is judged in this manner, but no one is judged quite as harshly as women over a “certain” age. A threshold that seems to creep younger and younger each year.

What a shame, because women (like men shockingly enough, world) get better with age. You, Miss Fisher, are better with your age. You don’t need anyone’s validation about this point, much less mine. And from your poignant responses to such ridiculous criticism, I know you know this more than anyone else!!

We, the viewing and critical public have the luxury of watching your face in a darkened movie theater. We who are not held to the standard that you are. We (NY Post author…I’m looking at you) who have not the fame and fortune that you have and we (still looking at you Post) who are, perhaps, jealous of those things.

I’m sure that as an actress with your great stature and respect in the nerd community alone (we will follow where you lead, General) you probably have access to the best resources in weight loss and boutique fitness and sure, as the Post author has suggested, even the best drugs out there for the Hollywood elite. Having read about you for years and years, I find it shocking appalling UNACCEPTABLE for anyone to suggest to you the things that have been suggested!

I look forward to a future where women are not judged by how good they look in a gold bikini, but rather on their merit as a genuine human being! But hey, I’m a hopeless optimist like that.

Thank you for returning to the big screen! Thank you for fulfilling the dreams of women everywhere to see more of the one and only Princess Leia, now General Leia. It was every bit as epic as I dreamed! And I hope to look half as good as you do at the age of…38! 😉

    1. Thanks Danielle! After reading about the NY Post article, I just got so hot about it!! Had to be said. Women are held t a ridiculous standard and the idea that someone shouldn’t accept that they are so much more than just “pretty” is ludicrous!!!

Completely agree. It’s disheartening and I think if people spent more time worrying about themselves than others we’d all be a lot happier.
