Last Wednesday I came to Memphis for my little cousin’s wedding.
One gigantic superstorm hurricane and 6 cancelled flights and I’m still in Tennessee.
I saw just about everything Memphis has to offer.
The zoo:
The Rock and Soul Museum:
Stax Records:
Sun Studio:
Corky’s BBQ:
Gibson’s Doughnuts:
Ricki’s Cookie Corner:
The Cotton Museum:
I spent Halloween here and finally decided that I had to stop being the creepy cousin in the attic on the happy couple’s first week of marriage.
So I hit the road and went to Nashville. Home of country music.
Apparently it’s also known as the Athens of the South thanks to this gem.
The Parthenon:
Where this chick lives:
The District is awesome:
The Belle Meade Plantation:
The Natchez Trail:
Birdsong Hollow:
I found a hiking trail:
Ate at Craker Barrel:
Found a Civil War reenactment being set up (incidentally one of my favorite time periods to learn about!):
The thing is… I know my own city so well. And when I travel to a different one I really love to experience everything it has to offer. But to truly experience it correctly you have to be willing to step off the beaten path and onto the battleground. (But more on that later!)
