Day 20: Scarlett O ‘ Hara from Gone with the Wind

Today’s choice is from my second favorite movie of all time (after the entire Star Wars saga of course) Gone with the Wind.

Just like with Star Wars, I can’t tell you the first time I ever saw Gone with the Wind, but I do remember being obsessed with it as a kid. I always wanted to be Scarlett O’ Hara and live in the romantic Antibellum South as a child. The big frilly dresses, the attractive men in uniform, the imminent danger of war and famine and oh yeah… the horrible slavery.

So, maybe not! But I still love this movie.

This is the very start of the movie. When Scarlett is still young and frilly and idealistic. She still believes the world revolves around her and hasn’t had to face the hardships of war quite yet. She may be a bit of a… rhymes with snitch… but I can’t help but love her and wish that Rhett would just come back at the end of the movie. I wanted that happy ending so much that when the mini series, Scarlett came out in 1994 I was overjoyed that there may come a happy ending for our dear Scarlett. As usual the book Scarlett is far better than the mini series, but I still love it and watch it often. It’s right up there with North and South and The Thornbirds.

Anyways… long story short, here’s my Scarlett! I left my snitchey attitude at home. Though I’m definitely more of a Scarlett than a Melanie. There’s no doubt about that. Scarlett is what you might call a classic hurricane. While Melanie is most definitely a tree. And we all know which one I am.
