Who’s seen the latest installment in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe? The newest iteration of Spiderman, played by Tom Holland, flew onto the scene in Captain America: Civil War with youthful exuberance, hilarious energy and a brand new Spidey suit, which we get to see him sporting again in Spiderman: Homecoming until events occur that causes Peter’s mentor Tony Stark to take away his suit leaving him to his own devices and his own homemade Spidey suit. That’s where my interpretation comes in:
Day 10: Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice
When I was in the 10th grade, I was supposed to read Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, but I totally didn’t. I bought the cliff notes and actually…didn’t even read those. I think I got an F…I definitely deserved an F! But worse than a failing grade, was missing out on loving one of my favorite authors and her works much earlier in my life.
It wasn’t until college that my horizons were broadened. I caught the 1940’s Lawrence Olivier/ Greer Garson version on TCM one night and rethought my adolescent decision to skip Austen altogether. I feel in love with Mr. Darcy, saw myself to be an Elizabeth Bennet and then quickly poured through the works, biographies and extended universe of Austen’s Regency England. Persuasion has actually come to be my very favorite Jane Austen novel. But Pride and Prejudice is right behind it, with Emma coming in as third.
Ok, I could have gone the Wonder Woman route or even done a faithful adaptation of Antiope or Hippolyta, but since I truly believe that I belong among the Amazons of Themyscira, I did my own take on it. I don’t want to have someone else’s look when I finally find the hidden island!
So here is my unique take on Amazonian fashion. Complete with shorts under my skirt for serious fighting!
There will a few times in this series where I will stray from my coveted vow of only using thrift store, consignment, resale and vintage clothing. Sometimes I’ll use things from my closet purchased long ago or I’ll turn to the closets of those closest to me, my mom, my dad, my aunt Becky and my Granny.
Today was one such instance…I was on the hunt for the perfect pair of brown Spongebob shorts, when I remembered a piece of clothing hanging in my closet already. A brown wrap skirt my mom had made when she was younger, that she bequeathed to me. Rather than spend extra money on a different pair of shorts that might better represent Spongebob, I opted to make use of that vintage (mom probably wouldn’t like that I call it vintage) skirt. And voilá….Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?
Full confession, i didn’t see Finding Nemo when it first came out in theaters back in 2003. And by the time I finally did see it, the movie had been over recommended to me and hyped so much that actually watching it was a bit of a let down. People were telling me that it was better than Toy Story…settle down, people!
I enjoyed Finding Nemo just fine, but it was the character of Dory that quickly became my favorite. So when she got her own sequel movie last year, I was pumped! I mean, who could ever resist Baby Dory? Who, I ask you who??
Plus, Finding Dory introduced me to one of my new favorite Pixar characters, Hank the septopus with his snarky, cranky attitude and his seven tentacles! Maybe I’ll even thrift store cosplay him one day!!
I don’t know about you, but Where’s Waldo has long been a favorite children’s book series of mine. I always think, going into a Where’s Waldo hunt, that it’s going to be easy to find him. But dang, Waldo is one sneaky dude!!
Hopefully I’m a little easier to find than Waldo is!
