DC vs. Marvel… I Choose Both!

I finally caught up on Arrow and Agents of Shield after giving up TV for Lent. And upon reading tons of recaps and reviews it seems to me as if people are trying to choose between the 2 shows. Just because they are both about superheroes is no reason to choose between them. It’s a reason to choose both!!!

Awww yeah. “Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.” promo photos

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – This show finally feels like it was always meant to. Like a Joss Whedon show in the Marvel Universe! The agency is in turmoil. Epic heroes are being name dropped on the regular and Agent Maria Hill is finally coming to play or save the day. The story lines are compelling, the characters are moving and the acting is tight!! It is an amazing show, not only because it is finally making use of it’s ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also because of the interpersonal relationships between Coulson’s team.

The introduction of Bill Paxton’s character John Garrett has brought a whole new level of fun and mystery and general bad-assery! This show went from fairly enjoyable to utterly unmissable overnight!! So now’s the time to catch up because it’s only gonna get better and better! (Also remember when Agent Ward finally became super hot!! Yeah that happened too!)

ARROW!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel an Obsession coming on xD

Arrow – Speaking of hot! (That bar hop thing he does… What??) This show has been good from the get go. But keeps managing to surprise me at every turn. Is Roy good or bad? When will Laurel take the mantel she was meant to wear? And what other epic DC characters will turn up? Greg Berlanti and Geoff Johns are setting the stage for amazing crossover tie ins once Flash hits the screens. And if DC would stop trying to play catch up to Marvel in the movie industry and just throw it’s weight behind the small screen, they could create something unique and amazing.

I’ve always been a fan of both Marvel and DC. I love Superman and Captain America. I want to watch Avengers and a Justice League movie. There is no choice to be made. And if these shows keep going the way they’re going, the only choice to be made will be which one to watch on Hulu Plus first. So keep it up Agents and vigilantes alike. In a world where DC versus Marvel… everybody wins when you don’t choose a side!!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The fall lineup for television this year is chock full of delicious treats!
But I am looking forward to ABC and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Kingpin of nerdom himself, Joss Whedon, is heading up the project as well as continuing his work on Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. (Busy man!)

By far the most exciting and notably cast member is Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson, who we last saw getting shanked in the back by Thor’s rogue brother, Loki.

But Agent Phil Coulson lived on in our hearts and has found rebirth on this series. Though word on how he survived is still a closely guarded secret and will be revealed throughout the pilot season.

With Joss Whedon at the helm and the entire ABC/ Marvel/ Disney brand backing the project there is no doubt that this will soar to new heights. Capturing both female and male audiences alike. If the ladies doubt the appeal of this project then they need just return to Whedon’s roster of shows to see his love of powerful women, powerful story and moving moments.
For the men well Buffy may have been a blonde chick from Sunnydale but she sure kicked some serious ass! S.H.I.E.L.D. will no doubt get a jolt of action worthy of any feature length film!

Definitely a must see of the season. The pilot episode airs Tuesday Sept 24th at 8pm.

Comic Con Recap

Saturday Highlights

Today was a day of leisure for me. No work to speak of. Only play!!

-First up I hit the Violet and Daisy panel. Featuring the Academy Award winning writer or Precious, Geoffrey Fletcher. Also featuring Carrie Fisher asking all the questions. As usual Carrie was wry, sarcastic and delightful. I always love getting to see her at the cons. Icon!!!

image

image

They also really delved into what Violet and Daisy was about and showed a few clips. It looks great!!

-Next up I hit the Marvel: Heroes panel ‘The MMO you’ve been waiting for.’

image

Now I love games but I’m not a big gamer. And I know nothing about MMO’s, RPG’s, PVP’s, etc.
But this got me excited. It’s an online, action, RPG (Role Playing-Game). It’s super cool because each character (there are many Marvel character options) has a catalogue of costumes featured with that character. Classic Spiderman, darker movie Spiderman. Hulk with classic purple pants, Avengers movie Hulk with ripped jeans.
It’s a very cool, unique way to give each person options with their favorite characters!
At the end of the panel, attendees were offered a code to join closed Beta. Yes, please!

-Next was the TBS King of the Nerds panel. They gave out these cute nerd glasses.

image

On January 17th a new show premiers on TBS called ‘King of the Nerds.’ With hosts Curtis Armstrong and Robert Carradine of Revenge of the Nerds (how fitting!)

image

image

Basically  nerds will compete on the show for the ultimate title King of the Nerds! The cast includes a wide range of nerds. Math nerds, cosplay nerds, pop culture nerds, physics nerds, etc.
It looks predictably nerdtastic.
The panel featured a few challenges from the actual show:
-Rubiks cube contest
-Batman vs. Superman debate (Superman won, duh!!)
-nerd Jeopardy

Plus they gave out free TBS Rubiks cubes. All in all it looks like a fun show and it was a very entertaining panel.

-Every year at NYCC I try to make it to a panel with Geoff Johns from DC comics. I missed the Green Lantern panel on Friday but was just in time for the Justice League panel today.

image

I am a big Geoff fan. I love his work! He’s has such a sensability about the DC world. He does new things while staying true and maintaining the integrity of the characters you know and love.
Also on the panel were Bob Wayne, Brian Buccellato, Brian Cunningham, Cliff Chiang, David Finch, Francis Manapul, Ivan Reis, Jim Lee, Joe Prado.

image

And yeah… they discussed this a little:

image

-Now while I love DC, I am constantly amazed by Marvel. The way they have organized the company and taken over the summer movie industry (and soon the world) is both exciting and inspiring.
And the Marvel TV panel was right across the hall and you could just hear waves of cheering and screaming from the DC panel.
Come to find out it was all due to the resurrection of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Coulson. Joss Whedon and Marvel announced that he is the first character being brought to the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot being created by Joss himself. And Clark Gregg was there in person to deliver the news.
Again, there is a special place in my heart for DC and for Geoff Johns. But damn if I wasn’t thinking I picked the wrong team at 5:15pm in E hall.

-After all the panels I wanted to see were over (and I clearly couldn’t get into the IGN for Walking Dead or for Firefly) I hit the show floor again.
Here are some show floor highlight pics:

-Marvel has released a line of colognes. Each scent is inspired by an Avenger:

No Hawkeye scent to be seen… disappointed! I imagine it smells like a brooding, American James Bond might smell. I’d date a guy who smelled like that.
