Today is the final day of my thrift store cosplay series. I really hope you all have enjoyed my shopping adventures. I certainly had a blast doing it! And now my wardrobe is tricked out!!
I wanna hear what your favorites were and if this inspired you at any point to give your local thrift stores a try. Is there a cosplay you think I should resurrect for Halloween in October? Or a character you’d like to see me try for the next series? Let me know!!
For the big finale, I pulled out all the stops and I’m bringing you characters from my favorite movie franchise of all time. This should come as no surprise…it’s Star Wars. I chose Star Wars! A Princess, a Scoundrel and a Farm Boy!! Enjoy!
You guys!!! Thrift Store Cosplay is winding down and I only have 2 days of cosplay left to share with you. I have really enjoyed tricking out my closet with fun, whimsical and practical items. Some of which are very specifically costume-ish and others that I will definitely get some more wear out of. My closet is pretty amazing right now!! I must admit and because everything was procured at vintage, thrift, consignment and resale stores, I feel hella good about it!!
I’m gonna be taking some polls on which were your favorite characters and such from the whole August series, so keep an eye out for that!! Also I have a giveaway going on right now with JORD Watches. I hope you’ll take a minute to enter to win $100 at JORD! Use this link: woodwatches.com/g/nerdinthesand
Day 23: Dopey from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves
For as long as I can remember, I have been a Disnerd. Disney is in my blood. I grew up watching the movies. I have a favorite Princess, a favorite Prince, a favorite Disney song, a favorite Disney movie, a Disney Princess I most relate to, a Disney Prince I’d like to date and of course…a favorite Disney character of all time. Well, to be honest, I have two favorite Disney characters of all time.
The first is the Genie from Aladdin (RIP Robin) and the second is Dopey from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Sure, he doesn’t have much to say or even that much screen time. But there was always something about Dopey. I find him endearing. And he has been at the top of my list for a very long time. When I was a kid, it was rather customary for me to receive something with Dopey on it for my birthday or Christmas, in my stocking and I think I even got an Easter basket once that had a Dopey item or two.
My love for Dopey has matured…it’s grown, as I have. And here we go:
I don’t know about you, but growing up with reruns of Happy Days meant the king of cool was none other than Henry Winkler’s Arthur Fonzerelli…aka The Fonz or Fonzie. He was always there to shed a well-timed “Eyyyy” on the situations Richie and the other Happy Days gang would find themselves in.
Day 9: Fairy Godmother from Disney’s Cinderella (1950)
Everyone’s always giving all the love to the Disney Princesses, ok…I know…me included. But what about the supporting characters who make the Princesses’ stories happen. Like…for example…Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother. We don’t know much about her, but we know that without her Cinderella would be up a creek without a paddle, if you will.
And another thing. We know Cinderella is Becky with the good shoes, but dang, if the Fairy Godmother didn’t have her own exquisite taste in footwear, would she really be giving Cindy such a great pair of heels? Women with bad taste in shoes don’t give shoes as a gift. I’m just saying…Fairy G Mom is probably rocking a pretty epic shoe closet back at home. With that in mind…here is my take on Cindy’s Fairy Godmother, mind the shoes!!
Day 5: Beverly Crusher from Star Trek: The Next Generation
With a brand new Star Trek on the horizon, I’ve been looking back at some of the episodes from my very favorite Star Trek series…The Next Generation. And one of my favorite characters Dr. Beverly Crusher. The constant (and only) shipper for my very favorite Starfleet Captain…Captain Jean Luc Picard! Here’s my take on the classy, sassy Doctor!
