Day 6: Lois Lane from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman
This was one of my very favorite shows growing up. Superman meets Danielle Steele, who could resist such a thing. Plus it was family friendly which meant I got to watch it in the first place. There have been some amazing Lois Lane’s over the years (and some not so great ones) but Terry Hatcher will always be cemented in my mind as that intrepid reporter from the Daily Planet. Especially in season 1 of the show where she sported this fierce, sleek bob.
As I’ve said before, I have very curly hair. So sleek and straight doesn’t come naturally to this nerdy girl’s hair follicles. Luckily I have my Chi hair straightener for just such an occasion.
It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s… nerdy hair!!
Day 7: Lorraine McFly from Back to the Future
Is there a nerd alive that doesn’t love Back to the Future. It’s got everything you could want in a movie: time travel, mad scientists, 50’s nostalgia and awesome hair. (Maybe one day I’ll recreate Doc Brown’s!) But today is young Lorraine McFly’s day. Played by Lea Thompson.
This is a fun and easy one. I started by attacking my hair with my Chi straightening iron. Curls are the order of the day. Then I added a little Big Sexy Hair spray for volume. Next I pinned up ONE side and in lieu of baby’s breath, I used little pearl hair sticks to mimic her hair accessory.
Then I donned my fancy dress and headed off the the dance… no wait I just got dressed in regular clothes and went to work. But in my head, I’m going to a dance. Fantasy is so much better than reality!!
Make sure to check back tomorrow for another brand new nerdy hairstyle! And head over to You Tube for my flipagram!
Day 11 – Dorothy
Today’s inspiration is Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. A most beloved classic!!
The key here is the french braid. Now I have no idea how to teach french braiding. And not for lack of trying. To be honest, for the longest time, the french braid eluded me. Until one night I had a dream I could french braid and when I woke up I understood how to do it. True story!! The only problem is, doing it on anyone else is backwards to me. I can only french braid my own hair. Anyways, if you can french braid, then… Welcome to Oz.
Next, secure the braids right below or around your ears. And tie a blue bow at the base of the braid. Leave the rest of the ponytail hanging down.
Now take those ends and give them a good curl. Once again, my trusty Chi come into play!
And there you have it. The perfect look whether you’re stuck in Kansas or get whisked away to the magical land of Oz.
Day 8 – Elizabeth Swan
Avast me hearties, it be International Talk Like a Pirate Day today. So me inspiration came from Keira Knightly’s Elizabeth Swann in Pirates of the Caribbean. Go out and grab a rum and toast those scurvy scaliwags of the sea!!
To create today’s hair I curl straightened my hair using my Chi straightener. Any straightener with a barrel edge will do this. Then I took the entire front section of my hair (leaving out a few wisps to curl later) and I teased it up and smoothed the front up and over to create the lift you see in the front. Mine is slightly less high that Keira’s. But it gives the desired effect.
Then I wrapped then bulk of my hair into a high bun (leaving out a large curl piece at the base of the neck to curl).
It ended up looking like this.
Finally, I curled the extra tendrils around my face and large curl that hangs over the shoulder.
I also added a pearl necklace for that old timey look.
Enjoy the rest of yer Talk Like a Pirate Day. Go rent Muppet Treasure Island or Swiss Family Robinson or Captain Blood or the king of the pirate films Pirates of the Caribbean. Yo ho, Yo ho a pirate’s life for me!!!
