Day 19: Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City
This should be no surprise to you…I’m a Carrie Bradshaw through and through. I’ve taken the Buzzfeed quiz, so I know it’s true! It’s the hair…the fashion sense…the love of shoes…the independent lifestyle. And while I haven’t been on the dating scene in quite a while, in the past…I was all about that bass. If you need a refresher course in my dating adventures, click here!
I’ve been on my fair share of dates, just like Carrie. I’ve kissed my fair share of guys, just like Carrie. And…well, that’s where the comparison in dating ends!!
One of the things I love about Carrie and can identify with her most is her single status, which lasts well into her 40’s in the show and the movie. And while she does eventually tie the knot with Mr. Big (another place we differ, cause I’m an Aiden girl) she spends plenty of time solo.
Me? I’m not looking for Mr. Big and I do enjoy being solo. That doesn’t mean there isn’t room for an Aiden or a Mr. Big or a Burger or a Petrovsky or any of the other kinds of men Carrie dated and loved on the show. It does mean that if none of them come along, me and my hair are perfectly fine with that! We’ve got other things to do…
Tank and Skirt from Goodwill
Pink heels from Salvation Army
Day 16: Padme Amidala from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
I was going to save this one for Thursday, the 18th, which will mark that we only have 6 months till Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens opens in theaters. But today I woke up with great Padme hair texture, so I had to bump it up a couple days. Padme Amidala starts off in Episode 1 as the queen of Naboo. Her hair is very strategic and massive. It’s part of her costume and her persona as queen. It’s meant to intimidate. By Episode III she has softened her hairstyles, rocking curls and waves. The hair becomes far less intimidating and much more feminine. Representing a change, not only in her political status (she is no longer queen of Naboo in Ep. III) but also in her personal life. She is married and pregnant, about to give birth to her and Anakin’s child. This is a much different Padme and her hair is a reflection of that. Hair can tell you a lot of things about a person!!
I used a clip in place of her headpiece and just let the curls cascade down. I also added a coral lip gloss like she’s wearing in the above picture. Now all I need is a flowy, Naboo nightgown and a very angry, confused Jedi husband and my journey to Padme cosplay will be complete.
Is anyone else so freaking ready for The Force Awakens??? Is it December yet???

May the hair be with you…always.
Day 13: Hermione Granger from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
When anyone mentions hair and Hermoine in the same sentence, it usually conjurs the image of an overgrown, bushy mess. But our favorite witch takes it up a notch and turns all the boys heads when she makes her grand entrance down the staircase at the Yule Ball in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
This updo works just as well at a wedding or prom as it does a magical wizard ball. Try it sometime!
Day 12: Agent Peggy Carter from Captain America: The First Avenger
Now that Marvel’s Agent Carter has gotten a season 2, we will be able to learn even more about Steve Roger’s lady love. Their love story may not have gotten a happy ending, but Peggy never let that sadness define her journey. She went on to be a founding member of S.H.I.E.L.D. And another all around bad ass female in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She’s strong and powerful, beautiful and vulnerable. Just like any really great character she has layers!
And her hair is as fantastic as she is!!
Sometimes the best hair for the job, is a woman’s!
Day 10: Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) from Avengers: Age of Ultron
If you haven’t seen Avengers: Age of Ultron then you must be living in a dark cave somewhere, far away from civilization and a movie theater. As of now, the movie has made over 1.3 billion dollars worldwide. So…yeah. It’s kind of a big deal. And if you’re looking for a favorite Avenger, allow me to present Black Widow! She is one seriously bad ass lady, especially since she has to deal with so many men. That a tough gig!
Not to mention that Natasha’s hair manages to be ready for action and/ or a photo shoot at any given moment. If I had to kick bad guy’s butts on the regular, I promise you, my hair wouldn’t look this good all the time!
Earth’s Mightiest Hair!!
Day 24: Ginger from Gilligan’s Island
Today I chose Ginger from Gilligan’s Island. Did anyone else ever wonder where all her clothes and hair products came from. Not to mention the electricity for the hair curlers that were obviously needed to create this hair do. Come on!! I know the professor was always hot for her, but there’s no way curling iron was his top priority when inventing things out of coconuts and palm fronds.
I used my Chi straightener to create this one. But my hair is too short for the voluminous curls she has here. In fact I think she must have packed a few hair pieces along with her glittering gowns. Perhaps that’s how she accomplished this one on an uncharted desert isle. And I know what you’re thinking… “Where’s your tropical print bikini, Liz??” Well it’s too cold to be wearing my bikini out. So plain old clothes will just have to do. Plus I’m not planning on getting stuck on any desert islands any time soon so I don’t keep it handy. (Though maybe I should!!)
We’re in the final stretch. Less than a week left of nerdy hair. I already have the last styles chosen. But I’m always looking for suggestions for the next series. So keep them coming!!
Day 23: Vivian Ward from Pretty Woman
Today’s hair comes from one of my favorite romantic comedies of all time, Pretty Woman, starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. This hair appears in the scene where schmillionaire, Gere takes schmrostitute, Roberts to the opera. She wears a classy french twist in an attempt to fit into his fancy pretentious world.
Personally I’ve never been a fan of the french twist. It does tend to be a more pretentious hairdo. What I love about this one is that Vivian still manages to keep it fun with the curly bangs. It’s what makes this hairstyle classy and fun instead of stuffy and boring!! Always put a twist on your french twist!
7 days left, friends. Here we go!
Day 7: Lorraine McFly from Back to the Future
Is there a nerd alive that doesn’t love Back to the Future. It’s got everything you could want in a movie: time travel, mad scientists, 50’s nostalgia and awesome hair. (Maybe one day I’ll recreate Doc Brown’s!) But today is young Lorraine McFly’s day. Played by Lea Thompson.
This is a fun and easy one. I started by attacking my hair with my Chi straightening iron. Curls are the order of the day. Then I added a little Big Sexy Hair spray for volume. Next I pinned up ONE side and in lieu of baby’s breath, I used little pearl hair sticks to mimic her hair accessory.
Then I donned my fancy dress and headed off the the dance… no wait I just got dressed in regular clothes and went to work. But in my head, I’m going to a dance. Fantasy is so much better than reality!!
Make sure to check back tomorrow for another brand new nerdy hairstyle! And head over to You Tube for my flipagram!
Day 24: Sandy from Grease
Today’s style is from a very dear movie I watched as a kid and then later realized was wildly not what I remembered. But still loved!!
It’s Grease!! Specifically bad-girl, makeover Sandy.
Tell me about it… stud!
Fun fact: I have never, in my life, used hot rollers. But I figured doing this style may call for them. So I borrowed my roomate, Audrey’s, Conair rollers and went to work.
Then took them out and here you have it.
Also because of using the hot rollers I got a bonus nerdy girl hairstyle from Grease… Beauty School Dropout!
