30 Days of Nerdy Hair – Day 3

30 Days of Nerdy Hair blog post

Day 3: Uhura from Star Trek (the original)

Most days I’m working on two factors…accuracy and/or wearability. Somedays I achieve one and not the other. Other days I manage to hit both goals. Today was not that day. Neither is this wearable or particularly accurate to the wonder that is Nichelle Nichols hair from the original Star Trek series. But nerdy hair is first and foremost about fun and second, it’s a learning experience.

I learned that this is not a style that will be incorporated into my master book of favorite hair styles. I also learned that I am sick of my roots!!! ūüėČ

Day 29: Li Shang from Mulan

Here’s another example of the Disney men and their awesome hair. Never let it be said that the Disney princesses have all the style!! Shang is the dashing captain of the Chinese army. He is tasked with preparing his troops, including Mulan in disguise, for battle against the menacing and rather large Hun army. Shang knows what he’s doing and knows that the last thing you want in your way when preparing for battle is your hair. So he keeps it nice and pulled back with a red cloth. I like a man who can be both trendy and practical!!!

Bring on those Huns cause I’m ready for anything!

Day 23: Ragnar Lothbrok from Vikings

I just started Vikings so I’m not too far into it yet, only episode 3, but I’m already crushing on Ragnar Lothbrok. The mighty viking who chose correctly when he married Lagertha!! They are one seriously awesome couple, at least by episode 3!!!

I opted not to shave my head and get tattoos, but still. I felt very bad ass with this style!!!

When the time comes, you must lead with your hair, not with your heart.

30 Days of Nerdy Hair – Day 22

Day 22: Susan Pevensie from The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

The Chronicles of Narnia was one of my favorite book series when I was growing, and has remained so. The story of Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie: the everyday British children that would become the kings and queens of the mythical, far off land of Narnia. It was such a magical story. And I still check the closets to see if I can find that magical land. (I haven’t yet, but hope is still alive!)

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was the 2nd book in the series, but the first movie that was made. And it was such a beautiful adaptation. Sadly the series wouldn’t make it past The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Which is a real shame because the stories, written by Clive Staples Lewis are richly and beautifully written.

Aslan bestows the title of Queen Susan, the brave upon plain ole Susan Pevensie when she is crowned a queen of Narnia. Don’t worry, if you don’t have a spare crown lying around, like I do, you can easily just substitute it for a sparkly headband of some kind.

“Once a king or queen of Narnia, always a king or queen of Narnia!”

Day 18: Princess Leia from Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

Today marks exactly 6 months till we are able to feast our eyes on the brand new edition to the Star Wars Universe, The Force Awakens. In honor of the countdown I chose to do Princes Leia hair today.

On the forest moon of Endor, the Rebel Alliance makes a stand against the Empire. Princess Leia, leader, senator, bad ass lady… always¬†has a killer braided hairdo for any occasion¬†and in Return of the Jedi,¬†she does not disappoint. What’s great about this style is that it’s versatile. She has the majority of her hair braided on top of her head and the rest is rolled into small buns in the back¬†so they¬†can easily be taken down later for a softer look. But if you have to run through the forest and fight the forces of darkness, then this hair is for you!

You can’t go wrong with a well executed braid!!¬†And I know it’s gonna last all day. And since Star Wars is my favorite and incidentally, the best movies ever, wearing this around all day is my great honor!!

May the hair be with you!!

Day 14: Gidget from Gidget

With summer fast approaching (summer officially begins on Sunday, June 21st), one can’t help but think of sunny beaches, surfer waves and summer swimwear. Gidget is the perfect avatar for the summer season. Her gee-golly gosh goodness will get you ready to do the Twist!

image

To perfect your summer Gidget hair, you’ll need bangs, pigtails and white or pink¬†ribbon. Then you’ll be ready for some fun in the sun!!!

Day 12: Agent Peggy Carter from Captain America: The First Avenger

Now that Marvel’s Agent Carter has gotten a season 2, we will be able to learn even more about Steve Roger’s lady love. Their love story may not have gotten a happy ending, but Peggy never let that sadness define her journey. She went on to be a founding member of S.H.I.E.L.D. And another all around bad ass female in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She’s strong and powerful, beautiful and vulnerable. Just like any really great character¬†she has layers!

And her hair is as fantastic as she is!!

Sometimes the best hair for the job, is a woman’s!

30 Days of Nerdy Hair – Day 11

Day 11: JEM from JEM and the Holograms

This was definitely one of my favorite cartoons growing up. Girl inherits record label and becomes a philanthropic business woman by day and an incognito rockstar by night. My life goals were set!!

If you were born in the late 80’s or 90’s and missed JEM and the Holograms, it’s all on Netflix. Though I warn you, it’s not exactly a cartoon for kids. (Definitely wasn’t aware how inappropriate it was as a kid.) I also want to make sure that you know the upcoming movie is a far cry from the magnificence that was Jem! To hear¬†my thought on that: click here.
image

I am a brunette by nature, so it’s hard for my hair to achieve the color pink that JEM¬†was able to rock. Plus I don’t have a holographic program, like Synergy, at the touch of an earring to assist me in creating my alter ego. But some hair chalk and a pair of clip-on star earrings from Buffalo Exchange will take you right back to 1985 and let’s be honest…I could totally be JEM. I just need my Holograms. (Any volunteers??)

This hair is truly outrageous!!

Day 10: Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) from Avengers: Age of Ultron

If you haven’t seen Avengers: Age of Ultron then you must be living in a dark cave somewhere, far away from civilization and a movie theater. ¬†As of now, the movie has made over 1.3 billion dollars worldwide. So…yeah. It’s kind of a big deal. And if you’re looking for a favorite Avenger, allow me to present Black Widow! She is one seriously bad ass lady, especially since she has to deal with so many men. That a tough gig!

image

Not to mention that Natasha’s hair manages to be ready for action and/ or¬†a photo shoot at any given moment. If I had to kick bad guy’s butts on the regular, I promise you, my hair wouldn’t look this good all the time!
