Day 3: Gem from Tron: Legacy
I’ll be honest. Tron wasn’t one of those things I grew up watching and loving. Back in the 80’s, if my parents didn’t watch it and introduce me to it then I never saw it. And when I got older I just forgot about it. But I did see Tron: Legacy when it came out in 2010 and I know it was no classic Tron and Disney clearly decided Tron 3 wasn’t worth pursuing, but I really liked it. And this style is dedicated to my science fiction pal at work who LOVES Tron!!
The key to the Siren, Gem is a really slicked back top knot. Now my hair is super curly by nature, so I can’t get it to play this game quite as well as Beau Garrett can in the picture above. But there are ways around that. Like Tron inspired makeup to keep the spirit alive!!
You get the picture. And remember to check back. I have 27 days to go!!
Day 25: Agent Dana Scully from The X-Files
The demand for more sci-fi hair has been heard. So today, I give you Agent Dana Scully. Doesn’t get much more science fiction than the X-Files. Scully is half of a team of special unit FBI that investigate the unexplainable. David Duchovny’s Agent Fox Mulder makes up the other half.
This is a classic working girl, power-bob. Very popular in the 1990’s.
5 days left, nerds!
Day 24: Ginger from Gilligan’s Island
Today I chose Ginger from Gilligan’s Island. Did anyone else ever wonder where all her clothes and hair products came from. Not to mention the electricity for the hair curlers that were obviously needed to create this hair do. Come on!! I know the professor was always hot for her, but there’s no way curling iron was his top priority when inventing things out of coconuts and palm fronds.
I used my Chi straightener to create this one. But my hair is too short for the voluminous curls she has here. In fact I think she must have packed a few hair pieces along with her glittering gowns. Perhaps that’s how she accomplished this one on an uncharted desert isle. And I know what you’re thinking… “Where’s your tropical print bikini, Liz??” Well it’s too cold to be wearing my bikini out. So plain old clothes will just have to do. Plus I’m not planning on getting stuck on any desert islands any time soon so I don’t keep it handy. (Though maybe I should!!)
We’re in the final stretch. Less than a week left of nerdy hair. I already have the last styles chosen. But I’m always looking for suggestions for the next series. So keep them coming!!
Day 21: Drizella from Cinderella
Today’s hair is the second selection from Disney’s Cinderella, but today I took a walk on the evil side. Evil step sister Drizella. She of the jealous attitude and the extra large feet that don’t fit the glass slipper.
So I actually tried a different hair style today, but it didn’t work out so I went for good ole Drizella. It’s an easier style. But no less nerdy.
We’re down to just 9 days left. Don’t miss a minute. I think I still have some Disney left on the list. Someone suggested a specific 30 days of Disney hair. What do you nerds think? Would you like to see a full 30 Days of Disney in the future? Let me know in the comments below. And have a wonderful Friday!
Day 18: Laura Cameron from Pan Am
Today is really random. Not only because this show was cancelled after just 1 season three years ago, but also because I never actually watched this show. But I saw the commercials when they came on and I always like the time period and the hair!! It’s all about the hair. And the 1960’s had great stuff going on in the hair department!
This actually qualifies as a fill fledged bee hive, but my hair can never seem to get that high, no matter how much I tease it. But you get the idea. Tall hair, lots of volume, pouty attitude and if you have a pearl necklace then throw it on for extra 1960’s flair!!
Check back tomorrow for yet another nerdy hair style. We only have 12 to go. Where has the time gone?
Day 13: Elsa from Frozen
After an unanticipated and unwelcome day off yesterday, I am right back in it today with this year’s Queen of Halloween costumes, Elsa from Disney’s Frozen. It seemed like everywhere I turned on Halloween there was a little girl dressed as Elsa. I believe we had about 13 at our preschool alone. She is a pretty cool character!! And no matter how many times “Let It Go” gets played, I still can’t seem to get sick of it. So here she is, Queen Elsa of Arendelle.
I don’t often lament the lack of my long hair, but for this one I can just imagine the kind of twisted bun I could’ve accomplished back then. But these days I’ll have to settle for a more modest version of Elsa’s coronation hair.

This morning I slept through 4 alarms. I woke up to the sound of my roommate moving about the apartment which is not something that happens before 6am. And even 6am is sleeping in for me. Not to mention 6:25 which is when I woke up with the stark realization that today’s nerdy hair would not be accomplished in the short time I had to get myself ready for work.
Sad news!! I had to leave the house with completely unextraordinary hair. Which for me, being right in the middle of a blog series, was very disappointing! And why is it that when one thing goes wrong, everything seems to at once. I was completely bad moody the entire commute to work. And in the middle of silently railing against a particularly slow walker, I thought to myself… You can either let this be your mood.. or you can change your attitude. (And I didn’t even make it rhyme on purpose!!)
I live by a motto, especially during 30 Days of Nerdy Hair, “Sleep when you’re dead!” There is too much in life to do and enjoy to waste it on sleeping or to waste it on being in a bad mood! Now, of course we all need sleep to rejuvenate our bodies. To rest our weary heads. And clearly my body knew more than I did, for it took the opportunity to turn off 4 alarms in a 45 minute time span and then place my phone under my pillow. Well played, tired body… well played!! But that will not effect the rest of my day!! It won’t. And if you are having a rough morning, I hope you are able to rally and get back in the race with a smile on your face! (I’m freakin’ Dr. Seuss today!!)
Tomorrow I will be back to my early morning wake up call as usual. Until then enjoy this recap of nerdy hair styles and head over to You Tube, Instagram and/or Twitter for more fun content!
Day 8: Rose Tyler from Doctor Who
To all the Whovians around the world, Saturday is known as Who day. Doctor Who is on it’s 13th Doctor (depending on how you look at it) but back in the days of 10 (my personal favorite) this lovely lady was his companion. Say what you want about Rose Tyler, but she will always be one of my very favorite companions of the good old Doctor!
And this 50’s hairstyle from the episode, The Idiot’s Lantern is so much fun! You’ll need pink ribbon and a little hair teasing, some straight bangs and a T.A.R.D.I.S. if you can get your hands on one. And if you do…take me with you!!
Check back tomorrow for another nerdy hairstyle. I have 22 days to go!!
Day 5: Gabrielle from Xena Warrior Princess
This might be surprising to you, but I never watched Xena. I’ve seen an episode here and there. But it wasn’t something my parents watched and back in 1995 when I was 13, we watched whatever my parents watched. And Xena wasn’t in the mix. I’ve since come to deeply appreciate Lucy Lawless from other wonderful work (ahem BSG!) And to appreciate this show as well. But I’ve never watched it all the way through. That being said, I really like Gabrielle. Spunky side kick to Xena herself.
This one took some work mainly because my hair is much curlier than Renee O’Connor’s. But I felt like running out and fighting bad guys or something. This hairstyle makes you feel pretty bad ass!!!
