Not My Timeline

Look, whether you are a passenger on the Trump Train or are currently working on your protest signs for the next march, you cannot deny that there has been a shift, a change in the winds. But instead of getting Mary Poppins, we got hatred, derision, division, fear, riots, protests, strikes, trolling, name-calling and more.

A lot of us are asking, “Why, God? Why?” But listen, God didn’t vote for Trump! So, I think what it boils down to is that we are simply asking the wrong question. We have to step back from the ledge and examine why and how we got here to begin with. And I think I have the answer…

Someone messed with our timeline, guys!! Look, I like think about what I’d do with a time machine as much as you do! Quick, top 5 time periods you’d travel to. Quick, top 5 dead people you want to brunch with. We’ve all fantasized about warning the Titanic about that pesky iceberg, assassinating Hitler before he has a time to wipe out millions of Jews and bearing witness to some of history’s greatest hits.

But as we all know, with great power comes great responsibility. And someone just got greedy.

Someone went to all the trouble of building a time machine and it worked. They went back! But, instead of being a careful observer, they tinkered with the timeline leaving us with what can only be described as the beginnings of a dystopian 80’s film.

The thing is, this person will eventually have to return to our time and they’ll discover what they’ve done. It’s up to us to cut them off at the pass and commander whatever contraption they’ve managed to create.

So whether it’s a flying Delorian that runs on gigawatts, a giant blue police box that defies space and time, a brass sled, a fancy necklace, a wormhole, an old pocket watch or something a bit more sophisticated like in Terminator…it’s up to us, my fellow Americans, to be vigilant.

We must find this meddler and put to rights what has gone terribly, terribly wrong.

So…if you see something, say something. We can come back from this. After all, if Marty McFly could fix his timeline, there’s hope for us!! I have to believe there’s still hope.

Why not donate to a great cause like the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

So many ways to celebrate a movie we love so much on a day futuristic day like today!

Favorite Funko Figures

Funko

To quote Charlton Heston in The Ten Commandments… “Can a man choose from among the stars of the sky?” Choosing merely 5 Pop! figures seems mean. Someone is gonna be left out. Someone is gonna get their little plastic feelings hurt. But the rules are clear. 5 must be chosen, so here we go. Thank to The Nerdy Girlie and Super Space Chick for making it “so easy” each week! 😉

#1 – Harley Quinn

Harley_Quinn_POP_GLAM_large

If you don’t know how much I love Harley Quinn by now, I wonder if you ever knew me at all! And incidentally this is the only Funko Figure I actually own. I got her for Christmas this year. So she is my 1st and favorite!! And I always preferred classic Harley over Arkham Asylum Harley, though she is awesome too! Pair her with the classic Joker Funko figure and you got yourself a DC party!!

#2 – Yoda

Another thing you should know if you’ve been keeping track, my deep and abiding love for Star Wars. So next up has to be a Star Wars figure. And this Yoda is just about the cutest thing ever in life! Though you really couldn’t go wrong with any of the Star Wars Funko figures. Each one is special and I want them, need them, have to have them all!!

#3 – Genie

Genie has long been my very favorite Disney character of all time. Not only because he is just awesome in general, but also because of the fabulous vocal stylings of the late Robin Williams. So many of the Funko figures are mouthless and that would just be wrong for the Genie. His smile holds the happiness of a thousand suns! And if you aren’t smiling just from the sight of this guy… I worry about you, I really do!

#4 – Professor X

Ok I had never seen this one before today, but I love it! The eyebrows are everything. I don’t often have a hard time choosing a favorite X-Man (Gambit every time) but this figure brings out all the love I have for the Professor, leader of the misfit mutants. So… yeah… this one makes the list!

#5 – Marty McFly and the Delorean

Delorian_POP_GLAM_large

Ummm…. do I really need to explain why this one is just amazing and necessary to have on any nerd shelf? If you need it explained to you, then you are clearly in the wrong place. Go away and come back when you have learned your lesson! 😉

Honorable Mention – Jessica Rabbit

3550_Roger_Rabbit_-_Jessica_Rabbit_GLAM_large

Ok I’m cheating and picking a 6th figure. Because look at her! She’s awesome. I love J. Rabs. She’s sassy and way too sexy for a cartoon character and she just loves that Roger with all her heart. Gotta love and respect that. Plus that hair curtain is too fierce not to earn an honorable mention!

What’s your favorite? Do you have any? Do you want any? Do you know what I’m talking about? If not, go to your room and think about what you’ve done! (Love you… mean it)

30 Days of Nerdy Hair

Day 8: Rose Tyler from Doctor Who

To all the Whovians around the world, Saturday is known as Who day. Doctor Who is on it’s 13th Doctor (depending on how you look at it) but back in the days of 10 (my personal favorite) this lovely lady was his companion. Say what you want about Rose Tyler, but she will always be one of my very favorite companions of the good old Doctor!

And this 50’s hairstyle from the episode, The Idiot’s Lantern is so much fun! You’ll need pink ribbon and a little hair teasing, some straight bangs and a T.A.R.D.I.S. if you can get your hands on one. And if you do…take me with you!!

Check back tomorrow for another nerdy hairstyle. I have 22 days to go!!

A Time to Reap

By Jonas Lee

22819890

“After Carter Gabel arrives back from his most recent travel through time, he learns that his unpredictable syndrome isn’t the only thing in his life he’ll have to find control over.” – Back of the book

This day and age YA books about youths with extraordinary skills and powers are pretty common. But Jonas Lee’s voice stands out in the crowd! Carter Gabel is a confused boy who’s world is much bigger than he knows. And when thrust into circumstances beyond his control and understanding he not only rises to the challenge, but becomes better for it. In this future, there is something called Chronological Displacement Syndrome. Basically people with this “affliction” leap back in time at random and without choice. But what Carter doesn’t know if that this power is controllable. Along the way he learns more about his family, a girl he barely knows and about himself.

I had a chance to ask Jonas Lee a few questions about his book. Here’s my interview:

NitC: What were some of the stories and authors that influenced you growing up?

Jonas: It’s hard not to mention the likes of Stephen King being an influence as a writer. He has written something that everyone has seen at one point or another. Other great authors would include the likes of Joe Hill, Clive Barker, Lois Lowry and Madeline L’Engle. One of my favorite books I’ve actually read through the most is called The Thief of Always. I think writing from a younger perspective can help draw everyone toward that age again.

NitC: In a post Hunger Games/ Divergent/ YA centric world, did that effect your writing at all? DId you find yourself actively trying to distinguish your voice or did it come naturally?

Jonas: This novel was very organic. Honestly, I took no inspiration from any other YA novel. They are all very popular, but for me, it just wasn’t how I envisioned a teenager talking or acting. So I had to channel a little of my youth and mix that in with how I envisioned Carter to be.

NitC: Is this the book you set out to write? How did it change along the way, if at all?

Jonas: This book is not what I initially set out to be my first novel. Quite honestly, I completed my first book and tried the traditional route for awhile with trying to find an agent and so on and so on. In the meantime, I started this chapter by chapter story out of the reservoirs of my think tank. It got to be so fluid and fun to put together that there really was nothing much to think of or change throughout the way.

NitC: Do you personally identify with Carter Gabel and in what ways?

Jonas: Carter holds a certain quality of mine in regards to when he talks to himself. I always find myself saying something like a smartass like him inside my head. His outlook on his life is how I wish mine could be at times. Impetuously ready to do something and prepared for anything. I think I tend to overanalyze everything to a fault.

NitC: If you lived in the Star Wars Universe, would you be apart of the Rebellion of the Empire?

Jonas: Oooo, such a difficult one. I’d have to say out of the two, I would have to choose the Rebellion. Something about trying to be stealthy versus flexing might. Although, I would ultimately rather by part of the Bounty Hunter’s Guild. Always loved Boba Fett the most.
