5 Characters I Want to Dress Up as for Halloween
I always have a hard time deciding what to be for Halloween every year. Mainly because there are so many beautiful and fun options! And while I usually a pretty decisive decision maker, at Halloween time I tend to waffle, because I want to be all the things!
This year I’ve managed to make my decision for my Halloween costume. I’m while not ready to reveal which on I’ve chosen. These are the options I chose from and if you have a guess, go ahead and comment below!
#1: Harley Quinn
Harley is my favorite character in the DC Universe and my favorite villain in all the comic verses. I actually cosplayed Harley at Christmas with my family last year. But there’s a new Harley coming our way in Suicide Squad next year (though I prefer the classic Batman: the animated series version of Harley) and I love the chance to dress as the Joker’s crazy lady love. So she always makes the short list!
#2: Jerrica Benton aka JEM
Yep, I always dreamed of being a rockstar. And being a child of the 80’s, there are few role models as pink, sparkly and fierce as Jerrica Benton aka JEM and her Holograms, Aja, Kimber, Shana and Raya. So I always look forward to cosplaying this music mogul. Plus I’ve done her hair for 30 Days Of Nerdy Hair, so I know I can pull it off. Very strong option.
#3: Topanga Lawrence
I’m currently knee deep in the Disney Channel spin off of the beloved 90’s sitcom, Boy Meets World…Girl Meets World. It’s Topanga and Corey’s kids who are now learning about the world (and it’s truly delightful) but original Topanga will always be a favorite. And I’ve never dresses up as her before. Strong contender.
#4: Kimberly aka Pink Ranger
Every child of the 90’s should feel me on this one. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers were the be all and end all of crime fighting teenagers in the 90’s. Plus Tommy…aka Green Ranger, then White Ranger…Hubba hubba.
#5: Princess Leia Organa
Princess Leia is always and I mean always on my list!! She is the sassiest and bad assiest of Princesses and she has so many great looks to choose from. I dressed up as Leia for Halloween when I was a kid and I’ve done plenty of her hairstyles for 30 Days of Nerdy Hair, but I’ve actually never cosplayed Princess Leia as an adult. So she is absolutely a major contender
this year make that every year!
Day 19: Poison Ivy from Batman + Robin
There’s no denying that Batman + Robin is quite possibly one of the worst films ever. And definitely the worst film to ever have the name Batman in the title. No one is disputing that!! What I will say is that Uma Thurman’s, Poison Ivy, is a shining star among a pile of Bantha Poodoo!
She is villainous and sexy and does complete justice to the character of Poison Ivy. Now, imagine her Ivy, Michelle Pfieffer’s Catwoman and someone as Harley Quinn teaming up together to try and take on the Bat.
That’s a movie I wanna see!!!
This is a fun one, but not really practical for everyday wear. Unless you are a saucy villain with an agenda. Then it makes a lot of sense!!
“Polly wanna kiss?”

Favorite Funko Figures
To quote Charlton Heston in The Ten Commandments… “Can a man choose from among the stars of the sky?” Choosing merely 5 Pop! figures seems mean. Someone is gonna be left out. Someone is gonna get their little plastic feelings hurt. But the rules are clear. 5 must be chosen, so here we go. Thank to The Nerdy Girlie and Super Space Chick for making it “so easy” each week! 😉
If you don’t know how much I love Harley Quinn by now, I wonder if you ever knew me at all! And incidentally this is the only Funko Figure I actually own. I got her for Christmas this year. So she is my 1st and favorite!! And I always preferred classic Harley over Arkham Asylum Harley, though she is awesome too! Pair her with the classic Joker Funko figure and you got yourself a DC party!!
Another thing you should know if you’ve been keeping track, my deep and abiding love for Star Wars. So next up has to be a Star Wars figure. And this Yoda is just about the cutest thing ever in life! Though you really couldn’t go wrong with any of the Star Wars Funko figures. Each one is special and I want them, need them, have to have them all!!
Genie has long been my very favorite Disney character of all time. Not only because he is just awesome in general, but also because of the fabulous vocal stylings of the late Robin Williams. So many of the Funko figures are mouthless and that would just be wrong for the Genie. His smile holds the happiness of a thousand suns! And if you aren’t smiling just from the sight of this guy… I worry about you, I really do!
Ok I had never seen this one before today, but I love it! The eyebrows are everything. I don’t often have a hard time choosing a favorite X-Man (Gambit every time) but this figure brings out all the love I have for the Professor, leader of the misfit mutants. So… yeah… this one makes the list!
Ummm…. do I really need to explain why this one is just amazing and necessary to have on any nerd shelf? If you need it explained to you, then you are clearly in the wrong place. Go away and come back when you have learned your lesson! 😉
Ok I’m cheating and picking a 6th figure. Because look at her! She’s awesome. I love J. Rabs. She’s sassy and way too sexy for a cartoon character and she just loves that Roger with all her heart. Gotta love and respect that. Plus that hair curtain is too fierce not to earn an honorable mention!
What’s your favorite? Do you have any? Do you want any? Do you know what I’m talking about? If not, go to your room and think about what you’ve done! (Love you… mean it)
This past Saturday I attended Geek Girl Brunch, a monthly gathering of lady nerds who love mimosas and all things geeky. What an amazing experience to find like-minded lady nerds in a city of millions.
I was one of the last nerds through the door (because I went to the wrong location first) and as soon as I walked into Playwright’s Irish Pub, I knew I was in the right place. This month’s theme was DC comics and the tell-tale Batman hats and Harley Quinn t-shirts had me feeling right at home.
I ended up at a table with 3 other women and I don’t think it could have been a more perfect match if we’d actually tried for it. Melissa, Lauryn, Dani and I had a blast!! We waxed poetic about Power Rangers, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Marvel Cinematic and of course DC Comics! We all even ended up ordering the same meal, steak and eggs. It was such a great afternoon of fun and female bonding.
Thank you to everyone over at Geek Girl Brunch for putting it together and to Forbidden Planet, DC Comics and Warner Brothers for the amazing swag! And to Playwright’s Irish Pub for hosting such a great event! Can’t wait for next month’s brunch.

Obviously I have a week spot for Joker’s criminally insane girlfriend, Harley Quinn. Darth Vader follows at a close second. I love to laugh and I used to watch Batman: The Animated Series back in the 90’s (who are we kidding, I still watch it!) And Harley always cracked me up. So yeah, she gets my vote over the baddest of the bad, Darth Vader himself. It doesn’t have to make sense. 😉 Life is a little more fun when it doesn’t, in fact!!
Incidentally, if you’ve never watched Batman: The Animated Series, then I suggest you do it… now!! And I am personally crying for your lost childhood, cause this series is amazing and also has Mark Hamill doing t

If you’ve seen this week’s episode of my web series, then you’d know that my family and I love traditions. And we have a lot of unique things we do to celebrate Christmas. (If you haven’t seen it yet, CLICK HERE.)
Whenever I tell people what we do on Christmas, I get 1 of 2 reactions. People are either really confused and borderline appalled… “You do WHAT on Christmas? Well, I nevah!” Or else they want to join in the fun… “Is your family looking to adopt a 27 year old from Sacramento?” (PS, the answer is always yes. Everyone is welcome with our family.)
It all started 6 years ago when my brothers, my cousins and I wanted to take some photos for our family’s Christmas presents. And instead of going to a JCPenny’s and taking boring, “normal” family portraits, we decided to get dressed up in Victorian garb and take pictures in our Granny’s 143 year old historical home, Eastbank.
When we took a look at the photos together we realized a few things. #1. How much fun we had. #2. How much fun we all could have if we did it again at Christmas. and #3. How much more fun it would be if we had a different theme every year. And why not start with Harry Potter.
As often happens in our family, things spiraled from there. Next thing we knew, a green screen was put up, a costume contest was started and friends and neighbors started showing up at our door in costume to join the fun. And let me tell you… it’s a lot of fun!! The best part is that every member of my family gets it. We are all a bunch of nerds. Once one of us gets into something we start to share it and then it spreads like wildfire. My mom read the Harry Potter books and fell in love with them. Then she recommended them to me and my brother. Next we told our cousin and aunt that they had to read them as well. And by then it was all over. We were a family full of Potterheads. Which is why we picked Harry Potter as the theme for our first themed family Christmas.
And the rest is history, Narnia (2010), Star Wars (2011), Lord of the Rings (2012), Doctor Who (2013), Superheroes and Villains (2014) and next year we will have Star Trek Christmas.
So if you’re in the greater Orlando area next year around Christmas time and you have a Star Trek uniform hanging in your closet just waiting to be worn, then come on over, take pics in front of our green screen and have a Christmas you will never forget!!
