Favorite Halloween Episodes of TV Shows

#1: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
image
A strong argument could be made for any of the 3 Buffy Halloween episodes. All are wonderful in their own right. But me…I prefer Fear, Itself from season 4 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You cannot deny the brilliance of Anya dressing as the scariest thing she can imagine…
image

#2: FRIENDS
image
Chandler and Monica throw an episode Halloween party. Phoebe finds out her sister Ursula is getting married and Ross dresses as “spud-nik.” Accordingly… hijinks ensue!!

#3: The Office
image
Michael Scott may very well be one of my favorite characters on television. Possibly the favorite. So The Office deserves it’s place on the list!

#4: Modern Family
image
The Dunphy’s love Halloween so their Halloween eps are always EPic…see what I did there. ūüėČ

#5: Parks and Recreation
image
And bringing up the end of the list is Parks and Recreation. Ben and Leslie (one of my favorite TV couples) dresses as Wesley and Princess Buttercup from The Princess Bride and it is just glorious. If you’ve never seen it…you should.

What episodes are your favorite to watch on Halloween??

Favorite Things about Halloween

I love Halloween!! What’s not to love?? There’s no better prompt than that for the season of ghouls and goblins! Thanks to The Nerdy Girlie and Super Space Chick for their weekly blogger link up! It’s a favorite part of my Fridays!!

#1: Costumes
image
If you’ve been following me for any stretch of time, you’ll know how much I love a good costume. Or costume hair or costume make-up. Dressing up is just so much fun. And an entire day dedicated to the pursuit of the pretend…sign me up! In fact my whole family loves dressing up so much, we decided one costumed holiday wasn’t enough. So now we do it for Christmas too. Why not extend the joy!! (Stay tuned for more about this year’s family Star Trek themed Christmas adventure.)

#2: CANDY
image
I have a major sweet tooth. I love Skittles and Starburst and 3 Musketeers bars and chocolate and caramel and sugary sweet substances of all kind! Except those non-distinct orange and black wrapper candies that always end up at the bottom of the candy bucket. The ones you try and convince your younger siblings are the best candies ever invented. (Was that only me??) I don’t eat much candy these days…my dentist would not approve. But I still enjoy the occasional piece of candy. Halloween is the perfect season for a little splurging.

#3: Spooky Decorations
image
I need to clarify. I love walking around neighborhoods looking at spooky house decorations. See that waving skeleton up there…that’s as spooky as I can take! I do not enjoy haunted houses and I really hate being scared! Scary movies? Nope. Haunted insane asylum? I steer clear. Creepy abandoned mansion? Never please!
But jolly pumpkins and happy, waving skeletons…yes, I will enjoy that. Thanks you!

#4: Trick or Treaters
image
When I was a kid, my great joy of Halloween was going Trick or Treating around the neighborhood with my brother and our little cousin. We lived in a great neighborhood too. One where the street would turn into a block party and where most of the houses gave out full-sized candy bars. One neighbor even baked these amazing oatmeal cookies that we looked forward to every year. Nowadays, I love to stay home with a giant bowl of candy and watch the tiny Trick or Treaters come ask me for candy (just the minis, I’m not made of money!) Tiny Iron Men and adorable Cinderellas. Homemade ghosts and store bought witches. I guess when I was little, I never imagined that it could be fun to be on the other side of the door on Halloween night.

#5: The Inevitable Harry Potter Marathon
image
Once a year I dive head first into the wonderful world of Harry Potter. Tis the season for Hogwarts adventures. Witches, wizards, goblins, dementors, etc. Harry Potter was practically made to be enjoyed around Halloween. Makes sense that ABC Family would have their Harry Potter marathon at this time! I look forward to it every year. Sure…i own all the movies. Sure…i can watch them whenever I want. But I absolutely still watch them on ABC Family everytime they’re on!
image
(Here’s hoping #Freeform keeps the Harry Potter marathon alive!!)

5 Favorite Things About Fall

I happen to be a summer girl myself. It’s my favorite season of all time and if I could just go from place to place just to always be where summer is, I would. My second favorite season is fall. It’s not so bad. But fall means winter is on the way, so it gets a bad rap with me. That being said, here’s what I like about fall.

#1 – Football Season

wpid-Screenshot_2013-11-02-21-31-53-1.png

I’m a die hard Florida State Seminoles fan. Cut me open and see that I bleed garnet and gold. So when fall rolls around, I know that it’s time to get my game face on! Don’t bother me on Saturdays, I’ll be watching the game!

#2 – Return of my favorite TV shows

0248b8a4fd8842658bd3a7cb6b0de6c6

These days, with Hulu and Netflix and summer programming, shows are always on and always new. But I still love the feeling of when favorite shows are returning after a 3+ month hiatus. Rumors start flying about what will happen on the new season and we all binge watch the previous seasons to catch up. I love TV and fall is the very best time to be a watcher.

#3 – Halloween

wpid-1435419038576.jpg

Fall means that Halloween is just around the corner! And I love Halloween. What more is there to say about it. Candy, costumes, fun and family!

#4 – Chilly Evenings

wpid-IMG_20131210_202647.jpg

Now, I¬†like my weather like I like my men…hot, hot, hot! I prefer a nice balmy 82 degrees at Christmas time and I hate being cold. But there is something to be said for needing a nice, comfy sweater to wrap up in after 7pm. Whether you’re at the stadium, watching the game on a Friday or Saturday night or taking an evening stroll. Being wrapped in a sweater is a wonderful feeling.

#5 РFairs, Festivals, Hay Rides and Pumpkin Patches

dj.uoczwlwz.170x170-75

There are fairs and festivals all year round, this I know. But when I think of fall, I think of County Fairs and Pumpkin Patches and Hay Rides and Pie Festivals. It makes the end of summer a little more appealing. And I love carving pumpkins or at least putting lots of stickers and¬†gluing pom poms onto pumpkins. Can’t do that in the summer, can I!!

I guess there are plenty of reasons to like the fall and the best part is summer will always be back! Check out my friend and fellow blogger, The Littlest Fowler. She loves fall!!!

30 Days of Nerdy Hair

Day 13: Elsa from Frozen

After an unanticipated and unwelcome day off yesterday, I am right back in it today with this year’s Queen of Halloween costumes, Elsa from Disney’s Frozen. It seemed like everywhere I turned on Halloween there was a little girl dressed as Elsa. I believe we had about 13 at our preschool alone. She is a pretty cool character!! And no matter how many times “Let It Go” gets played, I still can’t seem to get sick of it. So here she is, Queen Elsa of Arendelle.

image

I don’t often lament the lack of my long hair, but for this one I can just imagine the kind of twisted bun I could’ve accomplished back then. But these days I’ll have to settle for a more modest version of Elsa’s coronation hair.

DIY Halloween Costume

Ever since I was 2 years old and my mom stuck a pair of white tights stuffed with cotton on my head and called them “bunny ears” I’ve had or made my own Halloween costume. There’s something special about finding all the pieces and putting them together to make your costume. It means more. It has more value, than some store bought concoction. Here’s a look at Costumes of Future’s Past…

Ok this last one was totally store bought… but how cute are we!!!

That being said, not every one out there is a maven of the homemade, do-it-yourself realm. I get it. Who has the time? As I’ve gotten older, it has gotten harder some years. But I make myself try! And this year I decided to do Frida Khalo.

I did her hair for one of my 30 Days of Nerdy Hair series and loved how it turned out. (Make sure to check back starting November 1st for a brand new series of 30 Days of Nerdy Hair!!)

wpid-IMG_20131102_082329.jpg

So I thought, why not try the whole thing this time! The key to capturing Frida is a flowing peasant blouse and a well-drawn unibrow!

IMG_2555

I added a scarf like she wears in this photo:

fba73774cd6925e94aa31d9699d0d966But there are so many great Frida looks to choose from. The other key component for her is the hair.

b77fbc833c945b69f54afe700b714887To tell you the truth, I think I did it much better for 30 Days of Nerdy Hair than I did for Halloween this year, but as long as the representation is there, I think the point comes across. Check out this week’s episode of So…This Happened to see more about Halloween.

Top 5 Halloween Movies

fandom.5.friday

Graphic from The Nerdy Girlie

It’s time for another 5 Fandom Friday topic from Super Space Chick and The Nerdy Girlie. Today’s topic is Top 5 Halloween Movies. Now, personally, I hate scary movies!! There’s not one that I’ve seen that I actually enjoyed. A friend of mine is always begging me to see the latest scary movie with him and about every 2 years I indulge him. And I always regret it afterwards. I don’t really understand why people like to be scared. I’d rather be laughing. But that’s just me. That being said, I LOVE Halloween! I love to dress up and I love to watch non-scary Halloween movies. So here’s my list of non-scary Halloween movies for those of you out there who are like me and don’t really like to experience fear and terror!!

1. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

dj.uoczwlwz.170x170-75

This is an obvious first choice! It’s fun and funny and filled with nostalgia. If you’ve never seen this movie, then I worry about your childhood. Was it a happy time for you? Go watch it and make up for lost times!! Seriously. Don’t spend another day having not seen this movie! It’s great for all the kids out there and for the adults who still act like kids!

2. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

f0423019d9f794b603fe7a4e527c6a8d

Truth be told, any of the Harry Potter movies are wonderful to watch on Halloween. But out of all of them, Azkaban is the most Halloweeney of the bunch. Could be director, Alfonso Cuaron’s unique take on the franchise. The talking shrunken heads, the “Something wicked this way comes” song. It’s a perfect choice for Halloween.

3. Nightmare Before Christmas

f7a1330003bc1d0997c0ec929836ddfa

What’s great about this one is that chances are pretty good that your mind is already starting to drift towards the Christmas season. It’s inevitable and seems to start a little earlier every year. Nightmare brilliantly ¬†melds Halloween and Christmas, making it the perfect holiday gateway movie! Also, it’s safe to say that Tim Burton could be named King of Halloween and no one would object!

4. Casper

19a1d65182e64ae9206fe461c5c874d2

Ok, so he’s not the spookiest ghost ¬†out there, but he’s probably the cutest! And when I was 13 years old and first saw this movie, I immediately loved it. The presence of teen heart-throb, Devon Sawa didn’t hurt matters! That scene when he walks down the stairs after becoming human, looking all dashing with his blond 90’s bowl cut… be still my heart!!

5. Zombieland

2e9eefe0c38388f2ffe4617beb651cd3

Last, but not least. It would be wrong not to have a zombie flick on the list. Zombieland has all the blood, guts and hard hitting double taps you could ever want. But it’s also hilarious! Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin make the perfect quartet of zombie killing bad asses!

What will you be watching this Halloween? Let me know in the comments below. And check back next week for another 5 Fandom Friday topic!
