Day 17 – Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie
Out of all the classic 50’s and 60’s TV shows, I think I Dream of Jeannie is probably my favorite one. Sure, it wasn’t exactly a tale of women’s liberation. But Barbara Eden as Jeannie was delightful and her never ending efforts to end up with Major Nelson made for very funny television. Plus she was pushing the fashion envelope at the time with her harem pants and crop top! Gotta love a genie with good fashion sense!
I won’t be saying “Yes, Master” all day, but I will try to grant as many wishes as are within my power! Making people happy sounds like fun! (within reason… don’t get fresh!)
Your wish is my command!
Day 16: Padme Amidala from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
I was going to save this one for Thursday, the 18th, which will mark that we only have 6 months till Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens opens in theaters. But today I woke up with great Padme hair texture, so I had to bump it up a couple days. Padme Amidala starts off in Episode 1 as the queen of Naboo. Her hair is very strategic and massive. It’s part of her costume and her persona as queen. It’s meant to intimidate. By Episode III she has softened her hairstyles, rocking curls and waves. The hair becomes far less intimidating and much more feminine. Representing a change, not only in her political status (she is no longer queen of Naboo in Ep. III) but also in her personal life. She is married and pregnant, about to give birth to her and Anakin’s child. This is a much different Padme and her hair is a reflection of that. Hair can tell you a lot of things about a person!!
I used a clip in place of her headpiece and just let the curls cascade down. I also added a coral lip gloss like she’s wearing in the above picture. Now all I need is a flowy, Naboo nightgown and a very angry, confused Jedi husband and my journey to Padme cosplay will be complete.
Is anyone else so freaking ready for The Force Awakens??? Is it December yet???

May the hair be with you…always.
Day 10: Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) from Avengers: Age of Ultron
If you haven’t seen Avengers: Age of Ultron then you must be living in a dark cave somewhere, far away from civilization and a movie theater. As of now, the movie has made over 1.3 billion dollars worldwide. So…yeah. It’s kind of a big deal. And if you’re looking for a favorite Avenger, allow me to present Black Widow! She is one seriously bad ass lady, especially since she has to deal with so many men. That a tough gig!
Not to mention that Natasha’s hair manages to be ready for action and/ or a photo shoot at any given moment. If I had to kick bad guy’s butts on the regular, I promise you, my hair wouldn’t look this good all the time!
Earth’s Mightiest Hair!!
Day 9: Hercules from Disney’s Hercules
It isn’t just the Disney Princesses that can cause hair envy. Sometimes the Disney men folk have great hair too, actually a lot of them have great hair! Case in point, my man, Hercules. Check out those curls!! He could accessorize like nobody’s business! Yep, Herc sure knew what to do with that gorgeous mane of ginger hair!
I’m sad to report that my hair did not quite go the distance. The second I walked outside into the rainy, humidity my Herc curl fell like the Titans against Zeus. I don’t really use hairspray when creating these hairstyles, but perhaps in this instance it might have helped.
Zero to Hairo (ok maybe that one was a bit cheesy!)
Day 8: May Day from A View to a Kill
One of the fiercest Bond ladies in the entire franchise, Grace Jones’, May Day is 3 parts superhuman henchwoman, 2 parts devastating cheek bones and 5 parts total bad ass!! That adds up to a solid 10!!
Now, Sean Connery was always my favorite Bond. But my dad always loved Roger Moore. He found Moore to be funnier than Connery. So we watched a lot of the Roger Moore Bond movies as kids. And Grace Jones was always a favorite villain of mine. She’s got that steely gaze and that take-no-crap-from-anyone attitude!! Gotta respect that!
Neither my hair, nor my cheekbones reach the level of fierceness of Grace Jones. But I do what I can!
It’s hair. Nerdy hair!
Who was your favorite Bond villain? Who was your favorite James Bond?
Day 7: Arya Stark from Game of Thrones
We only have 2 episodes left in season 5 of Game of Thrones and Arya Stark’s story is brewing! She started out so innocently. A young girl with a family and a father who loved her. Now she is on an epic path of revenge, one to rival Inigo Montoya himself!!
I may not be on a path of revenge, but my hair means business!! And luckily, for me, winter is over in New York City!
Day 6: Lois Lane from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman
This was one of my very favorite shows growing up. Superman meets Danielle Steele, who could resist such a thing. Plus it was family friendly which meant I got to watch it in the first place. There have been some amazing Lois Lane’s over the years (and some not so great ones) but Terry Hatcher will always be cemented in my mind as that intrepid reporter from the Daily Planet. Especially in season 1 of the show where she sported this fierce, sleek bob.
As I’ve said before, I have very curly hair. So sleek and straight doesn’t come naturally to this nerdy girl’s hair follicles. Luckily I have my Chi hair straightener for just such an occasion.
It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s… nerdy hair!!
Day 5: Lagertha from Vikings
I have yet to delve into the wonderful world of the History Channel’s, Vikings. But it is a show that has been recommended to me over and over again (I promise I’ll watch it!!!) It’s no secret that I’m an easy sell when it comes to a new show. It usually takes about 25 mins for me to fall in love with a new series. (Except for Orange is the New Black. I gave that thing an 8 episode try and still hated it.) In the case of Vikings, all it took was Lagertha’s warrior hairstyles for me to know this was a show I wanted to watch!! Sometimes hair makes all the difference!
The great thing about Lagertha is that her warrior braids are always a little different so you can really have some fun with this! I watched a tutorial from the hair stylist on the show, Dee Corcoran. And she created this cool way of braiding backwards to create the looks for the show.
“When your time comes, you must lead with your hair not with your heart!”
