30 Days of Nerdy Hair-Nerdvember

Day 2: Frida Kahlo

You can be a nerd for just about anything. And history is just one of the many things I can nerd out about. So today I chose a historical figure in the art community, Frida Kahlo.

She of the braids, ribbon, flowers and unibrow. I decided to dump the unibrow and just do the hair.

Day 29 – The Evil Queen from Snow White and the Huntsman

Only one day left of this amazing experience here in San Diego. So much money has been raised for Operation Smile at Nerd HQ. It’s just inspiring to see. I will recap everything later and remind everyone what Nerd HQ is, if you don’t already know (you should already know!!)

With all this goodness going around I decided to go evil today with the hair. So I chose Charlize Theron’s Evil Queen from Snow White and the Huntsman.

To create this look I just started making braids with my hair, in all different directions. And then somehow weaved them into each other.

Day 28: Princess Leia from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

For day 2 of Nerd HQ and SDCC, I chose the princess of all princesses. The girl every girl wanted to be and every guy fantasized about for generations. Princess Leia Organa.

image

To create this look, I separated my hair into three sections. One with the entire top layer of hair and then the bottom split in two for pig tail braids. With the top section I made a bun in back. And with the bottom two, I braided them and looped them to meet at the bottom of the bun. Then I used many a bobby to secure it all.

Day 10: Legolas from The Lord of the Rings trilogy

Legolas from The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit is my choice for today. With the release of the new Hobbit 2 trailer, I am very excited to see Orlando Bloom return to his role as Legolas.

This one is pretty simple. Start with very straight hair and tie it half up. Then create small french braids on each side starting from the side of your head, past your ears and let the rest of the braid just hang.

Day 2: Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones

Today’s inspiration is Daenerys Stormborn, Mother of Dragons and the once and future Khaleesi of Westeros. Played by Emilia Clarke on HBO’s Game of Thrones.

Dany has seen many epic hairdos on GoT. Mainly involving intricate braids.
But this look is most current, from season 3 and my particular favorite.

Part hair in the middle. Create two braids starting just off center of your part on each side of your head.
Pin together in the back. Then create another set of braids on each side closer to the ears. Also tie those together in the back.

Finish off by giving all the hanging hair a bit of a curl.

Bonus Day 3 – Rapunzel

Here it is, everyone. The last hairstyle of the series.
I have to thank you all for coming to this page to see my little experiments. It’s been so much fun. And honestly I’ve really learned a lot, not only about what my hair is capable of doing, but of what I am capable of doing to it.
If you find yourself with free time, go on Pinterest, google your favorite movies or come right here and copy some styles. It’s fun, challenging and you’ll learn about your own hair.

A lot of people throughout the series kept saying ‘this isn’t nerdy, it’s beautiful.’

What I wanna do at Nerd in the City is share with you that beauty and nerdity can be one and the same. It is for me.

Zachary Levi (of Chuck, The Nerd Machine and… Tangled!) is always saying that, ‘being a nerd just means you’re really passionate about something.’

I think you have to be pretty passionate to get up at 5am every morning and copy hairstyles from popular and obscure entertainment sources for a straight 33 days. I am a nerd. And proud to be one!!

So without any more talking here it is. Today’s inspiration is Rapunzel from Disney’s Tangled. Voiced by Mandy Moore.

I have been collecting flowers throughout the series in anticipation of creating this hairstyle. I love this one. It may be my favorite out of all the styles. But more on that tomorrow…

Final day of Comic Con, final day of 30 Days of Nerdy Hair. Can’t wait for next year, on both counts!

Day 1 – Lara Croft from Tomb Raider

Today’s inspiration is Lara Croft.

Tomb Raider

If you want to take this style on the road today, make sure you’ve perfected the art of the french braid. That’s it folks. It’s as easy as that. Leave a piece out in the front to replicate Angie’s and just start at the top of your head and braid your way down.

Make sure to rest your arms occasionally. Mine were losing circulation after a while… I have a lot of hair.Β Otherwise it’s pretty straight forward and a great low maintenance and somewhat nerdy hair style to rock throughout your day no matter what you do!
