44 Reasons Why It Is Good To Be a Nerd

It is so darn good to be a nerd right now. And if you don’t consider yourself a nerd, let me go ahead and give you your very own, personal invitation. It is never too late to join our tribe.

We may come off a little strong at first, but we love when people come to the Dark Side (or the Light, if you’re into that sort of thing.) Don’t mistake our passion and zeal for anything other than just that.

Sure…there are trolls. But trust me when I say, we take care of our own! Here are 44 reasons why right now is the time to join us…and together we can rule the fandom!!!
image

1. STAR WARS EPISODE VII: THE FORCE AWAKENS (tickets have been purchased!! Internets have been broken. This is the big leagues.)
2. Star Wars Episode VIII (ok we don’t know what it’s called yet, but the script is written and the funds are already designated!)
3. Star Wars Episode IX (we don’t even know who’s directing this one, but trust us…we’ll be there!)
4. Star Wars: Rogue One
5. Rumors of a young Han Solo film (rumors are our bread and butter. Get used to it.)
6.Star Wars Rebels (It’s only on season 2, plenty of time to catch up!)
7. Anything else Star Wars that is in the Disney pipeline. (If you aren’t sensing a trend then there may not be hope for your induction into our society.)
8. Ok…we do like some other things too…try Star Trek (anything with Star in it makes the short list!)
9.New Star Trek TV show in the works
image
10. Any and all things Marvel (ie: the next 14 items on the list)
11. Marvel’s Jessica Jones (this one premiers in 7 days so you better catch up and watch all of Daredevil on Netflix stat!)
12. Marvel’s Captain America Civil War (trailer will be dropping very soon.)
13. Marvel’s Doctor Strange
14. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy 2
15. Marvel’s Spider-Man
16. Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok
17. Marvel’s Black Panther
18. Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War Part 1
19. Marvel’s Ant Man and the Wasp
20. Marvel’s Captain Marvel
21. Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War Part 2

23. Marvel’s Agent Carter (season 2 starts in January)
24. Marvel’s Luke Cage and Iron Fist (both coming to Netflix along with season 2 of Daredevil.)
image
25. DC has a lot of exciting things coming to our eyeballs soon as well (they just haven’t all earned their own number slot in this nerd’s estimation, but some are worthy like…)
26. DC’s Suicide Squad
27. DC’s Justice League
28. DC’s Arrow (currently in season 3 on The CW)
29. DC’s The Flash (currently in season 2 also on The CW)
30. DC’s Supergirl (kicking major butt in it’s first season on CBS)
image
31. The Walking Dead
32. Once Upon a Time
33. Doctor Who
34. Game of Thrones
35. More Jurassic Park
36. Word of more Indiana Jones is in the ether.
image
37. A little thing called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (translation: more Harry Potter)
38. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (translation: even more Harry Potter)
39. Netflix and Hulu are making it easier than ever to catch up on your nerd. In my day you had to wait for DVD sets to be released and either rent from Blockbuster (yeah that was a thing) or just spend the $29.99 to own it. You’ve got no excuses anymore! LOST, Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Heroes, Supernatural, X-Files they can all be yours!)
image
40. Speaking of The X-Files, you better get started cause new X-Files is coming our way in January. Jump on it and believe!
41. Star Wars Battlefront (if you aren’t a gamer yet, why not let Battlefront pull you in!)
42. Any and all things Disney (they make things other than Star Wars and Marvel movies as well. I know…crazy!)
43. Oh, speaking of Star Wars…there is so much amazing expanded universe literature coming out. (Start reading! Reading is cool! There’s a lot to catch up on!)
44. There are plenty of other awesomely nerdy things coming out before and after and in between all that’s listed above. But I’m trying to think past December 17th, 2015 and I’m finding it very hard to do.

Well…you have a lot of homework to do so you better get started now. See you on the other side where I’ll be waiting with your Nerd membership card*. We will engage in an obligatory lightsaber battle and a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock. It’s what we do!

*Membership card not guaranteed.

What’s Your Favorite?

Only 1 week of web series hiatus left. And I have all kinds of crazy stories coming at you in the New Year! But I wanted to find out if you had any favorites out of the episodes I’ve done so far. So I have a couple of¬†polls below that I hope you’ll take! And if you have any thoughts, I’d love to hear them in the comments.

There have been a handful of men to come into my life up to this point (don’t worry, there’s a bunch more in our future) but I wanted to know if you had a favorite. And if you forgot who did what, then click here and take a look back at the episodes that we’ve done so far. With only 18 episode at about 2 minutes each, it’s an easy binge watch. ūüėČ

Thanks for your opinions. I love to see the results. And I’ll see you next week for a brand new episode of So…This Happened.

30 Days of Nerdy Hair

Day 21: Marion Ravenwood from Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark

Happy Saturday to you all! Today I chose to go with Marion Ravenwood. Indy’s once and one true love. Sure, Indy 4 is inferior to not only all other Indiana Jones movies, but to many other regular movies as well. But I still love it. And I really like that Karen Allen returns to the franchise.

This one was not my best work. Plus my hair is way too short to braid. But you get it.

The Pinterest Wormhole

Have you ever got caught in the inevitable Pinterest wormhole? You know what I’m talking about. One little picture of Tom Hiddleston’s face and you are knee deep in pinning every expression he’s ever made. Which leads you to that one photo of him and Benedict Cumberbatch together. Which is just about the most perfect man sandwich ever invented in life.

Two of my most favorite people ever(: Tom Hiddleston and Bennie Cumberbatch....

Of course, once you are in the land of Cumberbatch you end up with a brand new board called “I am Sherlocked” because one pin of that handsome face is not enough. And then you’ve brought Martin Freeman into the mix. Which brings you around to The Hobbit. Soon you have a board called “Over the Misty Mountain” which brings in Dominic Monaghan (and leads to a board called “The Hatch“), Richard Armitage (and a board aptly titled “Sherwood Forest“), and Ian McKellan which reminds you of how much you love wizards!! And once wizards enter the mix, you can’t go on in life without creating a board called “The Boy Who Lived.”

That is a ticking time bomb of new boards about to explode on the Pinterest-sphere. Then you’re just pinning left and right (3 hours have now gone by and you’ve forgotten to eat.) Once you’ve pinned Potter you say to yourself, “There are so many other fandoms I love that are not yet represented.”

Then comes more boards with titles like “1.21 Gigawatts,” “007,” “Glitch in the Matrix,” “We Named the Dog Indiana,” “Timey-Wimey,” “Walkers,” “Stormborn,” “Shiny,” “Welcome to the Hellmouth.” And so on. Being the gigantic nerd you are, you need a “Star Trek” and a “Star Wars” board. Fandom is not complete without these two… duh!!

All of sudden you think to ¬†yourself (cause there is no human in sight amid all this pinning) “What about superheroes? They aren’t represented yet either. That’s not even fair of me.” So you come up with boards like “DC vs. Marvel (everyone wins)” and “The Evil League of Evil.” And soon you find that perfect picture of Loki smiling with that devilishly handsome face of his and somehow you’ve ended up right back to pinning the many grins of Tom Hiddleston.

Just gradually more mischievous. And there's still people who don't get this fandom. bwaahaha

The circle is now complete. And an entire day has wasted away… but if we’re being honest with ourselves… do we really think wasted is the proper word? Nope!

Tomorrow let’s start with a young Harrison Ford and see where that takes us!! The possibilities are endless.

Young Harrison Ford

PS… I’m not even kidding. Head over to my Pinterest profile to explore the many wormholes that await you. And happy pinning!

30 Days of Nerdy Hair

Day 4 – Willie Scott

Today’s inspiration is Kate Capshaw’s Willie Scott from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Arguably the least favorite of Indiana’s Jones ladies. And hey… agreed. It’s Marion Ravenwood all the way home. But the girl had kinda boring hair. And Elsa… well she was a Nazi, so let’s agree that Nazi hair is out altogether. Willie had the hair and the costumes and she was flashy. As a young girl, I loved her. She annoys a little more now, but the nostalgia remains and so does the killer hair!!

With this style you need something that can mimic her hair piece. I went to Michael’s¬†Craft Store¬†and bought a spool of Christmas ribbon. It matches Willie’s dress and while not 100% accurate, it gives the effect.

image
$7.99

Now the key to pulling this one off is texture and curl. I sort of pulled all my hair to the top of my head and then started pinning and clipping the ends down with the same bobby’s and clips I used for the Bantu Knots. And thanks to the Bantu Knots my hair had extra curl today!! After all that, I turned a length of the aforementioned ribbon into a pseudo bow and tucked it into the side. And VOILA!

image
Anything Goes

From the side and to get a better view of the Christmas bow in my hair…

Now Willie was a showgirl, so I threw on a little Dior lipstick to really finish the look off. Red is obviously the best choice for a ‘do like this!!!

I Need a Hero…

It isn’t the least bit fair for the average modern man out there. But for a girl raised on Star Wars, Disney and Gone with the Wind, who had a brother that introduced her to The X-Men, Power Rangers and The Green Lantern. A girl raised on pure whimsical imagination… of course I need a hero. Or at the least, a man more than willing to dress up like one on Halloween and at ComicCon.

How is the modern man meant to compete with the paragons of truth, justice and tight pants that are constantly being put out there? (Not that I’m complaining.) Such heroic figures. Men in tights and men in capes. Men of steel and of iron. Men in long coats, leather coats,¬†brown coats. Men who wear masks,¬†fedoras, suspenders and bowties.¬†Men in suits and men with swords. Men in¬†breeches¬†and in¬†loincloths.¬†Men who wear chucks and men named Chuck.

It isn’t fair. But it’s not my fault. Long ago,¬†Prince Charming entered the picture. And at the tender age of 4 it was all over!! Next came Han Solo, and as you can see from the list above, the rest is history. But I don’t care. I have to believe in heroes. Because in actuality, being a hero isn’t about carrying a gun or going to war or even about saving a life. The truth is, rarely does the average person get such a blatant opportunity for heroics.

No, it’s much deeper. It’s integrity and character. It’s seeing the evils in this world and at the very least, at the bare minimum, it’s caring about change. Humanity is capable of true greatness. Great acts of good, great acts of evil. And it’s modern mortal heroes (men and women alike) who are charged with changing the world.

We don’t have the mythical super-powered good guys to look to in times of crisis. But there’s a reason we’re so drawn to movies with heroic figures. Movies like The Avengers and The Hunger Games. Because when we watch them we feel inspired to heroics. Even of the smallest kind.

So I say again… I need a hero. But at the same time, I need to become a heroine worthy of such a man, should he one day come knock down my door. Tights, swords, chucks and all.

Hey, a girl can dream!!
