It’s that time again! The fog of the holidays has finally lifted (the older I get the longer it lingers.) The weather has been turning warmer and warmer down here in Florida and it’s time to gear up for a brand new fitness series!!
Themed fitness series have been the best thing for me in regards to getting on track with my personal health and fitness. From my #AvengerinTraining series to my #PrincessBootCamp, each one has motivated me beyond just meal plans and fitness routines. These are opportunities to break bad habits, discover new things and make real, lasting lifestyle changes. Even if you only take away 1 or 2 things from each series, that builds up to a really good life. And as my friend Renita always says, #babystepstogreatness.
With Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War on the horizon, I thought I’d start with the franchise that motivates me more than any other franchise out there. Do I think I could be a superhero one day? Yes! Do I think I have some work to do before I achieve superhero status? You betcha. But I don’t like to recycle fitness plans. The thing that worked for me 4 years ago with #AvengerinTraining won’t work for me now. My life is different. My schedule is different. And my body is older. So I have to move at a pace that works for today’s me, not yesterday’s me.
But like my #AvengerinTraining series, I wanted to use Marvel as my inspo. So I came up with a series based on the Infinity Stones. Which have been peppered throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years, if you’ve been watching closely. The stones are the McGuffins that Thanos himself has been seeking since The Avengers hit movie theaters in 2012. They are all powerful gemstones that are tied to all the power in the universe. Each one has a different property and purpose, but when they are all combined in the Infinity Gauntlet, they grant the user…
With that in mind, I devised a 7 week series. 1 week for each of the 6 Infinity Stones (Space, Reality, Power, Mind, Time and Soul Stones) and a 7th week for the full Infinity Gauntlet!
Stay tuned for a full week by week breakdown, starting with Week 1: The Space Stone.
But here’s a little tip if you want to dive into a new fitness series, or anything really…put your money where your dreams are! I’m starting each week by purchasing all my fitness classes up front and creating my schedule right off the bat. That way, I have no excuses. The money has been put aside, the classes have been purchased and it’s just up to me to do the things I say I want to do. So…stay tuned!!
My favorite show of all time is Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I can watch it over and over again and never get bored. It’s a show that will stand the test of time. The musical episode, Once More with Feeling, will always be my favorite.
If you weren’t a teen of the 90’s then you may not have enjoyed the many wonders of watching Buffy, including but not limited to, staking vampires, witty dialogue, teen romantic drama, and epic 90’s fashion and hairdos!! Including this classic 90’s updo!
This hairstyle can also easily be accomplished with a pencil or a small stake, which makes the vampire slaying all the easier!!
“In every generation there is a chosen one… her hair alone will stand against the vampires, the demons and the forces of darkness. She is the slayer.”
Today’s 5 Fandom Friday topic is the 5 conventions you’ve been to or wish to attend. The very first convention I ever attended was Star Wars Celebration. I took my brother for his birthday and it opened a whole new world for me. I’d never been to a con before that. I had no idea what to expect. No idea what was about to happen. I got bit by the convention bug…hard! So here’s my list.
As I said, Celebration is the first convention I ever attended. So it holds a very special place in my heart! Plus it’s an entire con devoted to that galaxy far, far away. My favorite of the galaxies! Click Here for more information.
New York Comic Con is a must for nerds of all persuasions! It has something for everyone. And this year it even eclipsed San Diego Comic Con’s staggering attendance. There are panels about everything you could ever want to know about. Sometimes I go with friends, sometimes I go along, and I always have a blast! Click Here for more information.
Nerd HQ was born out of Zachary Levi’s desire to bring a more personalized experience to the fans. And to raise money for Operation Smile at the same time. I haven’t heard if it’s coming back for a 5th year this year, but I sure hope it is. Because it’s an amazing event with a very worthy cause! Click Here for more information.
Last year was the very first year of Book Con and it was amazing. An entire convention dedicated to books and reading!. Why didn’t we think of this earlier. If you have a chance to attend this year… do it! Click Here for more information.
What once was Leaky Con, a convention born out of a deep, abiding love for all things Harry Potter, is now Geeky Con. A convention that celebrates all manner of geekdom! I can’t wait to see how it will change. Click Here for more information.
Hopefully I’ll be able to make it to a whole bunch more this year. I have a couple things brewing for 2015 and I can’t wait to share them with you. In the meantime, see you at the cons!
Today’s hair comes from Xanadu. The romantic tale of the roller skating Muse, Kira and the down-on-his-luck Sonny. Their love transcends the boundaries of the gods. And yet this movie could not transcend the depths of bad movie hell. In fact it is said to be the movie that inspired the creation of the Razzies, otherwise known as the worst movie ever awards. It has since become a guilty pleasure favorite to watch and also ridicule. The fact that it’s a pretty bad movie doesn’t stop Olivia Newton-John from have nerd worthy hair!
You need a couple spools of ribbon and an air of the heavenly to pull this one off. Both of which I happened to have this morning… go figure!!
Tomorrow’s is a tough one, so definitely check back to see if I accomplish what I set out to do.
So today is Halloween. And up here in New York it is supposed to rain tonight. And last year was Hurricane Sandy and the year before that there was a freak snow storm. Basically God is putting the kibosh on slutty costumes.
This does not upset me in the least. It is upsetting to me (sorry guys) that each year costumes get sluttier and sluttier. And people are finding ways to make even the least slutty occupation, somehow slutty. Like slutty construction worker and slutty police man and slutty unicorn (not a profession, but you get my drift.)
I really don’t understand it. The one year I went as something that could have been perceived as slutty, I was a Victoria’s Secret Angel and I wore pajamas and wings. Everything was covered. I like creativity and well thought out costumes. Costumes that are funny or nostalgic or nerdy. These are what should win the prizes.
I was in a costume contest a few years back. I went as Catwoman (I wore a long-sleeved turtleneck, black leggings and black boy shorts. By no means slutty!!) You know what won that year? Slutty Brittney Spears. (As if the slutty even needed to be added on back then.) It was just the worst. I didn’t even have a great costume that year, but there were plenty of others that should have won the prize.
Women of the world, I beg you. Quit with the slut routine!!! Find something new to be. Quit showing your boobs and your ass and everything else God gave ya!! Leave a little to the imagination. I beg of you!!!
Anyways. Have a very Happy Halloween tonight and stay dry!!! Don’t forget to share pictures (unless they’re slutty… then don’t!)
